Fish Shop

Brief: JH : “Teach a man how to fish and he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day.'' Me : You got it boss.

Highlights : Part English fish-and-chippy, part New York oyster bar and part Maryland crab shack, it's also hysterically, crazily, absurdly, over-themed. I identified a vintage wooden counter complete with frosted glass windows and strategically placed it in a way that opens up for takeaway fish and chips. Sourcing beaten-up old lanterns, vignettes of fishing flies and sea shells took time but was thoroughly enjoyable. Designed the eclectic wall-mounted fish and a ''catch of the week'' noticeboard to create a community feel. Commissioned a designer friend to make staff blue-and-white striped tops. Designed the signage of the toilets to say ''buoys'' and ''gulls''. The crowds roared.
