The Good Sort

Project: The Good Sort

Client: 8 Tuxedos Inc.

Location: New York City

Opened: 2017

The Brief: Create an ‘Instagramable’ space along with an ‘Instagramable’ menu. But make it vegan.

Highlights: While curating a room with the Instagram influencer in mind wasn’t hard, the beverage menu took a little longer to get down pat and make it taste as good as it looked. Knocked down a few walls to open the space up and create a bright, airy, übercolorful “Aussie” vibe. Hand selected the white, copper and blue terrazzo floor and counters, throwing in a dash of brass throughout. Brought the same interior color scheme out to the façade with graffiti work commissioned by a pal (fun fact: said color scheme was inspired by the inside of an Australian abalone shell). Curated a collection of over 100 records so the record player stayed pumping tunes that were always in line with the brand’s feel-good vibe. Layered and merchandised all the shelves with hundreds of pastel colored flowers in assorted vases.

Meticulously designed the menu to be entirely categorized by color. Ooof. Experimented in making over 35 versions of the rainbow latte until we found the perfect taste and layering effect that omitted an ombre-painting look. Who knew you could paint with coconut milk and blue algae and then eat it? Was very rewarding when the product I designed blew up on Instagram. #nailedit
