Project: Palmer & Co.
Client: Merivale group
Location: Sydney
Opened: 2012
Client Brief: An underground prohibition-style bar, celebrating a time when booze was banned, yet free-flowing.
Highlights: Sourced the venue’s show stopping centre piece at auction: the insanely beautiful vintage cabinet full of curiosities under a painted retro sign that reads “tonics – cocktails – tipple – cordials tinctures.” Mic drop please. Exposed the brick walls and structural arches to create a cavernous feel, adding accents of wood, leather and taxidermy to amp up the throwback vibes. Sourced over 150 black-and-white portraits, and commissioned custom tilework and hand-painted signage to reinforce the brand identity within the space. Curated the low candlelight to enhance the other vintage touches and eclectic oddities I picked up along the way.
